Enter a dark and dangerous world of giant sea creatures and bizarre fish as you journey below the Earth’s surface to discover what lies beneath in Deep Oceans - a new joint exhibition from the Australian Museum and Questacon-The National Science and Technology Centre.

From the Vampire Squid and Dragonfish to the Sea Mouse, Fangtooth and Squat Lobster – this hands-on exhibition will showcase all the weird and wonderful animals that make their homes 4000 metres below the sea.

Our special Deep Oceans Activity Bags will help your kids explore the Deep Oceans exhibition as well as give them stuff to do at home! Available from the Museum Reception for $5 each, the bags include:

Come to a Glow in the Dark Disco!

Transport yourself down to the deep sea where light cannot reach! We’re having a Deep Oceans Disco where creatures (and that includes you) glow in the dark. Wriggle your tentacles, groove your fins and dance to Ruby the Clown’s tunes.

When:5 - 7pm, Wednesday 22 January
Ages: 12 & under
Cost : Disco $5 per child
Face painting $2 per person

Deep Sea Decorator’s Craft Tables

Help – we need the decorators in – Deep Sea Decorators that is! Come and make the weird and wonderful sea creatures you’re likely to find in our ocean’s depths. Some glow in the dark while others are just plain ugly. Your creations will be used to decorate the Deep Oceans Disco on 22 January.

When: 10am – 12pm, Monday 6,13, 20 January and Friday 10,17 January
Ages: All welcome
Cost: $2 per child

Meet the Octonauts on the Special Kid's Trail

The Octonauts are a crew of eight animals who explore the ocean in search of adventure. From their undersea "Octopod" base, the Octonauts are always ready to embark on new exciting missions.

Young deep ocean explorers can join Captain Barnacles and the Octonauts on a special adventure through the exhibition. Help them solve puzzles and make discoveries. Explore! Rescue! Protect!
