Newcastle Time Walk - volcanoes, coal & fossils

Locals checking out the history in the rocks
Sat 20 Aug 2016
02:00pm - 05:30pm

Participants will have the chance to be field geologists and explore the history of Newcastle's landscapes. Rocks of the area tell us much about past climates and environments. Each site feeds into a better understanding of how the Earth and local landscapes have evolved over the last 300 million years.

We will stroll along Bathers Way for about 3 km, from Nobbys Head to Newcastle south, visiting spectacular geological features with evidence of volcanoes, changing sea levels and remnants of 250 million year old forests and swamps.

Supported by the Hunter Science Hub and the Inspiring Australia initiative.

Date & Time: Afternoon of Saturday 20 August, 2016, 2 pm to 5:30 pm.
(2-hour tours leave on the half hour from 2 pm to 3.30 pm)
