isolation: Portraits of Newcastle during Covid-19
When the first Covid-19 public health order closures were announced in March 2020, photographer Luke Kellett wondered what this would mean for Newcastle. He wanted to document how the city felt and looked without the usual crowds. He wanted to explore togetherness during isolation.
Luke photographed different types of households in isolation.
Recording his subject’s thoughts, fears and hopes for the future. We are sharing elements of those conversations in this exhibition.
When this socially distant, Covid-safe photography experiment began, Kellett was concerned that he would run out of time to capture the unusual situation before everything returned to normal.
We had no idea that this would become a new normal.
